This includes final project and presentation in class. The elementary presentation will take place after this until the end of the quarter.

Tangram Project
For this project you will be divided in groups of 3 or 4 people.
Part of the work will be done in class, but you will be asked to complete most tasks at home.
Every person in the group has to participate. Remember: Grades will be individual.
There will be an oral presentation from 3 to 7 minutes, in which each group will present their results.
There will be an oral presentation for one grade level at the elementary, in which each student will participate.
The final grade of the project will be calculated as the following:
Activity 1 10%
Activity 2 25%
Activity 3 10%
Activity 4 25%
Oral presentation 10%
Presentation for the elementary 20%
Geometry Project – Tangrams
In this project you will:
Activity 1:
Study the history of tangrams and find out how it was created. You may want to use the library, interactive encyclopedias, or the Internet as a resource. You will write a report telling your findings. This report can be illustrated.
Activity 2:
You will classify each of the five triangle pieces above by the sides and angles. Describe each triangle completely. Which tangram triangles are congruent? What postulate or theorem could be used as an explanation? Why?
Compare the pieces between themselves. Which combinations of pieces could form others? Draw diagrams to exemplify your answers. (There are many possibilities, so try as many as you can)
Even though we didn't study quadrilaterals yet, investigate properties of those by using rulers and protractors. Write down your findings. Draw diagrams to exemplify your answers.
Activity 3:
Copy the seven shapes on a paper and cut them out. Rearrange all the shapes to form the figure below. Fix this arrangement into a cardboard as a puzzle completely done.
Activity 4:
Create at least three of your own geometric designs, using all seven pieces in each design. Try to create geometric shapes or shapes of figures or objects. Make a sketch of each of your designs, or cut the tangram pieces out and fix them on a poster board.
You will create a tale, where you will tell an 8 year old child, through a story, what you have just learned of tangrams. Your task will need to include your designs as illustrations for the story. (For example, if you design a duck, your story will have to include a duck)
When creating the tale take into consideration all the possible questions of the child and make use of appropriate language. Don't forget to be creative, and not copy one of the existing legends.
